let's get to know each other, I'll start

i'm katie briar

and this is my favorite part: it's the part where we become best friends.

First of all, I am so glad you are here. I consider my job, the best one in the world. The opportunity to document the connection and love two people share for one another is a greater honor than I can explain. My sincerest hope is not only that you relive every moment of your time with me through your photos with a smile on your face, but that you also say to yourself, "that is us," when you see them.

My philosophy as a photographer is simple. It is my job to help you tell a story that is real.

Let me explain, every couple is different. How a couple describes themselves is important. It is something I carefully consider when helping you bring your vision to life. For instance, maybe you consider yourselves firstly, best friends. Maybe intimate lovers or even bandmates. You might be extremely comfortable in front of the camera stripping naked and running into the ocean, showering, or making out in your underwear. We can do that. That would be sick! Or perhaps you feel most like yourselves on a quiet day at home drinking whiskey, resting your head on your partner's shoulder.

When you close your eyes, ask yourself these questions: "What does our love look like? When do we feel the most like ourselves?" Whatever your answer may be, to that I say, let's capture that! Let's tell that story. Your story. Not someone else's. A lot of people can get behind a camera, throw you in front of a pretty place, make you laugh, tell you to kiss, and take a good picture. Oh, we will laugh, play, and get beautiful photos for sure. But with me, they will be the right ones. The honest ones. Photos of you, just being you, whoever you are together.

We could jetset off to Rome and capture you tossing a coin into the Trevi Fountain. Throw a party in the desert while you elope with your closest friends surrounding you as you ride off on motorcycles. Let's drink on the beach passing around cigarettes and dance til the stars come out. Start your new life hiking Mount Ranier or to an abandoned plane in Iceland just you, your partner, and me. On your wedding day, hide out with me in a bathroom sipping cocktails while you take an introvert's much needed breather. Maybe you are celebrating ten years together and this time, you want to photograph it right. Together, with me as your co-creator, we will tell your story with the ideal backdrop for showcasing your relationship for what it is, be it romantic, silly, peaceful, or wild either on an adventure far away or even in your own backyard.

What I am saying is, every person is different. You might be bashful or you might be bold. Whoever you are is exactly who you can be with me. I don't create for, I create with, and I don't photograph strangers. So let's get to know each other.

I love early mornings with too hot coffee and whatever new hobby I have picked up recently. My house is filled with half finished projects I swear I will get to one day, but before I can get one done, I've discovered a new motivation. Like planning a trip somewhere random, knitting a Hufflepuff sweater, making a chandelier out of wooden beads, painting my garage black, figuring out how to do my makeup right, skateboarding, tarot card reading, creating the perfect Spotify playlist, refurbishing an old VW bus, surfing tiny waves off the Georgia coast, or reading a book the internet can't stop talking about.

Misty, overcast days are my favorite: spent somewhere across the world with my camera or inside with my chosen family and my little piece of the world.

This big guy below is Bear. He is my soulmate, my Patronus, my guardian angel. He brought me into adulthood, drove twenty-seven hours across the country with me, and is the reason I believe that heaven is real. We started our Savannah journey together.

I love him more than life itself.

I am an introverted, Millenial, Capricorn, only child. Don't run away! Truthfully, all these seemingly unfortunate descriptors have helped me find my place in the photography world.

At heart, I am still a kid that never grew up and fortunately, the things I enjoy doing most in the world are what I do for a living. The work or play, depending on how you look at it, never stops. That's the Capricorn in me.

As for being an only child, I have always yearned for human connection. I cherish it and I've realized the core memories I have developed with the ones I love and have loved happened in the most ordinary moments. Average is sometimes not average at all. And when I think back on those moments of connection and love I see them so clearly. That's what I strive to capture when I am behind the camera. I want to help you recreate these moments: the moments that are often times overlooked but are the foundation for our most retold stories.

Lastly, and I think most importantly, on being an introvert: breaking out of your shell can be difficult and I deeply understand those that struggle with it. The thing that has allowed me to break out of mine, is photography. Through it, the extroverted, best version of me lives. It is my home and my safe place.  When you are in front of my camera, it is my goal to make it a comfortable place for you as well. I feel like I do that best by getting to know you extremely well.

As I said before, I don't just show up, third wheel it, and take a picture, anyone can do that. This is an experience. One I want you to come out of understanding and loving yourself and each other a little bit more.

My dad first introduced me to photography when I was only a toddler. He was off work during the daytime and would follow me around with an old camcorder and a Canon AE-1. When I was old enough to wind a viewfinder, I insisted my mom buy me disposable cameras every time we were in the check out line at the grocery store. I would take pictures of everything: flowers in the yard, my grandmama in her apron making cookies, family vacations out west, you name it. From there it only grew.

By graduation day at the end of high school and with a stack of money saved over years, I bought my first professional camera. With it I photographed my friend's senior pictures and that summer, my first wedding. That camera got me through two bachelors degrees and a lot of heartache in between. In the four years following, I taught elementary school south of Atlanta and in Texas before leaving for Arizona to pursue photography full time. It was the best decision I ever made and that brings us to now. Home is wherever I am and right now, that is in Savannah, Georgia.

I have lived in the plains, the desert, and now by the coast. I've loved them all, but traveling somewhere new has always been where my heart is. Paris, Amsterdam, Rome, London, Berlin, Barcelona, Seattle, New York, Los Angeles, any one of them I'd be happy to call home one day or at least find myself there again with two people in love who are sharing their story with me.

Why love? It outlasts our time on Earth. It's why we are all here and yet it is unique for everyone. I can't think of anything more worthy of being made tangible through photography.

Katie is so amazing, she makes you feel so comfortable upon first meeting her. Gives you things to do but also catches the natural, in between moments that are incredible. Would highly recommend!

Highly recommend! Katie gave me the photos I’ve always wanted! We felt at ease during our session and she had tons of ideas. Will definitely use her for future photos!!

My fiancé and I had the pleasure of shooting with Katie! I could not have been happier with any other photographer. She captured the love between us when I didn’t even think it was possible. She’s super sweet and upbeat, she encourages yourself to be who you are. She made me feel so comfortable as if I had known her for years. I personally struggle with self confidence, yet she had no problem showing me the true beauty of who I am. I definitely recommend Katie, she’s hardworking and extremely talented.

Loved Katie's carefree and artistic approach! This is the exact type of photographer you need if you are looking for effortless and candid moments. She lets you are your partner find a natural environment to interact in and then captures those sweet moments so perfectly. She also has unique eye for interesting photoshoot ideas!

Katieeeeeee. She is fantastic and made the photography experience so fun. 10/10 recommend this fun, confident, spontaneous lady for photos.

I want to say that this is my very first experience ever doing a couples pictures but Katie made everything seem natural and made everything just flow like I knew exactly what I should be doing. I had a very great time in our session and was really looking forward to settling up another session Thank you so much for turning pictures of us into something beyond anything I thought was possible!!

My boyfriend and I had a photoshoot with Katie and she was the most interactive, bubbly, fun photographer I've ever worked with. She made us feel like professional models and I am so glad she was able to work with us!
